30 years at Lots Road Festival
Wednesday 16th - Sunday 27 May
We are very excited to be celebrating 30 years at our Lots Road location - a great chance to celebrate the creativity and diversity that we see at the Club every day, with performers who are not only some of the finest musicians in World Jazz but also good friends of the Club.
In the words on Steve Rubie:
"In the early Autumn of 1987 a good friend of mine and the Club, at that time situated at 606 Kings Road, called me to say following our eviction notice earlier in the year that he had found a new venue for us. His name was Peter Juster and as well as being involved in commercial property he was also a keen and talented bass player.
Trusting his impeccable judgement I quite literally went straight around to see it. It was a derelict basement with water running down the walls, a broken down piano and a dead cat, but it was indeed perfect for what we wanted.
And so, after extensive renovations, on Thursday May 26th 1988, with the Ronnie Scott Quartet playing, we opened our doors to the musicians who would go on to make the Club what it is today, and on Friday May 27th 1988 we opened to the general public. Sadly, my good friend Peter Juster, without whom none of this would have happened, passed away in December 2014 and so I would like to dedicate this Festival to his memory, as well as all the other great musicians who have passed through our doors in that time. Enjoy....."
“I’m so excited to be helping the 606 celebrate it’s 30th Anniversary at Lots Road. It’s importance as a venue and home for musicians should never be underestimated. It’s a national treasure.." - Jamie Cullum
