Smitty's Big 4 606 Club Chelsea live music venue jazz swing mainstream club restaurant london uk9:30PM This swinging band, styled as the "feisty little brother" of the “Kansas Smitty's House Band” is led by expatriate American saxophonist and clarinettist Giacomo Smith. Although relatively new to the UK, Giacomo has already made quite an impact on the swing scene as a fluent and authentic clarinet player, as well as an excellent modern jazz saxophonist. The band tonight will focus on the music showcasing the 30’s and 40’s upbeat swing style of New Orleans and New York, and as well as Giacomo on sax and clarinet the band will also feature Pete Horsfall on trumpet & vocals, Andrew Oliver on piano, Tom Farmer on bass and Will Cleasby on drums, making this the biggest quartet in the World!  As Giacomo explains, "this streamlined formation allows the band to navigate New Orleans and swing standards with unparalleled energy and tightness while maintaining the melodic integrity of the canon". Although all these predominately young (most are under 30) players are also well known on the modern jazz scene they are extremely enthusiastic about playing this fun, good time music, which they do extremely well – so it’s guaranteed to be a highly entertaining evening.

Her 2007 debut CD, “Legacy”, was warmly received and led to appearances on national TV and radio as well as jazz festivals including Montreal and Vancouver. Since then both her performances and her writing have moved her to the forefront of the UK jazz scene. Her latest CD “Where I Need To Be”, features her excellent original material written with Grammy Award-winning producer Terry Britten and pianist Tom Cawley, with one of her co-writes from that album “Everyone But Me”, being included on an album produced by Michael Bublé in early 2013. Through the prism of my childhood and growing up in Canada I will set an intimate scene using songs and artists that inspired my love of jazz and my ambition to become a vocalist in that rich tradition. Tuesday 19th - HAMISH STUART & HORNS

Singer Songwriter Guitarist Hamish Stuart 606 Club Chelsea live music venue soul Groove R&B Club restaurant8:30PM  Probably best known for his work as the original lead singer/guitarist with The Average White Band, Hamish has had an illustrious career as both songwriter and performer. He has worked with the likes of Diana Ross, George Benson and Chaka Khan (for whom he wrote the No. 1 chart hit ‘Whatcha Gonna Do For Me’) culminating in six years with the Paul McCartney Band. Although still guesting in other people’s bands since ’94 he has also led his own group, which is a supergroup in every sense of the word and very much out of the R&B tradition, although considerably more sophisticated than the 70’s version. For many years Hamish played monthly here at the Club and his performance at our 40th Anniversary Festival in 2016 was a highlight of the celebration for many. He continues to be highly active on the scene, working not only with his own band but making guest appearances with the likes of Ringo Starr and Bill Wyman and was seen at the Club last year with the band "360", featuring his old AWB sparring partners Molly Duncan and Steve Ferrone. Tonight Hamish will be Celebrating Christmas with his extended band that not only features regulars Jim Watson & Ross Stanley-keyboards, Adam Phillips-guitar, Steve Pearce-bass and Ian Thomas-drums but also includes the addition of Hamish's amazing horn section of Patrick Hayes-trombone, Tom Walsh-trumpet and Jim Hunt-sax. This is a rare outing for this quite remarkable line up and an absolutely guaranteed musical treat. Hamish is very much musical “family” to us here and this gig is always a little “special”, not only for the audience but for us too and we are truly looking forward to welcoming him back. Booking definitely advised.

“We love Stuart, the funky ex-Average White Band singer and rhythm guitarist with Chaka Khan, George Benson etc. He's still playing a superior blend of soul and jazz with a great band while his voice has that unique smoky soul allure.” Time Out; "Hamish Stuart...still sounds wonderful" The Scotsman; "...former Average White Band singer-guitarist Hamish Stuart and his superb band honoured the stay-true-to-the-groove sentiment expressed in one AWB classic, Queen of My Soul, as well as reconfiguring and deliciously slowing down another, Cloudy, in a...set of sincere soul searchin' and feelgood rhythm and blues" The Herald Scotland

Thursday 21st - SIMONE DEE

Singer Simone Dee 606 club Chelsea live music venue soul groove club restaurant london uk8:30PM A very old friend of the Club, Simone is an Australian singer with an international reputation. With over 30 years in the “business” she has numerous gigs and TV appearances to her name, as well as successful seasons in the West End and hundreds of recordings for film soundtracks and other session work. She started performing in her teens, landing a theatre role with “One for the Money” & “Two for the Show”, that led to her combining song, dance and comedy into her repertoire. Simone eventually found herself in the UK with the singing/comedy trio “The Fabulous Singlettes” (organised by another very old friend of the Club, Naomi Eyers) that not only led to tours around the world, but also to a TV Series with the BBC and the start of Simone’s love of the UK, which culminated in her residing in London for more than eight years. During Simone’s time in London she found herself working with the likes of Anastasia, Stevie Wonder, and Marcia Hines and it was also during this period that Simone’s now long-standing relationship with “soul/funk” and the 606 Club(!) was born. Simone returned to Australia in 2007 where she now runs her own highly successful, well established, singing school as well as continuing to travel around the country, performing with and for many of the top “Aussie” artists as well as working with the contestants on the Australian equivalent of The Voice. Simone is not only at home at the 606, but completely in her element with “Soul” where she has established herself as a Funky force to be reckoned with! With her powerful, sensuous, voice she performs a remarkable jazz groove set and is very, very impressive. Also featured tonight will be her amazing band of some of the finest groove players in the UK including Dave Oliver-keyboard, Francis Hilton-bass, Paul Jones-drums and Kelly O’Brien-vocals. This will be Simone’s first gig in the UK for some time, so with this terrific line up who include between them work with the likes of Incognito, Mama’s Gun, Lisa Stansfield and Sigma I think it’s fair to say you can expect quite a party!

Saturday 23rd - XMAS JAM FEATURING SAMARA AND SPECIAL GUEST lizzie deane

Singer Lizzie Deane 606 club Chelsea live music venue funk soul R&B club restaurant london uk9:30PM Well, Xmas is almost upon us, and at this time of the year we really get in to the spirit of it all! This is the last night for us before we close for the holidays and we traditionally invite all the musicians who have performed at the Club through the year to come down for a jam. The band featured tonight is Club boss Steve Rubie’s group Samara, a five-piece jazz/Latin/Groove band, and suffice it to say we think the guys in the band are just great! The pianist, Neil Angilley works with Vanessa Mae, Shirley Bassey and “Down to the Bone”, Dill Katz, the bass player, is visiting professor at the Guildhall and Nic France the drummer, has worked with just about everyone, including Dave Gilmore (Pink Floyd) and Bill Withers. And watch out for our Special Guest vocalist, Lizzie Deane, a remarkable vocalist who is probably best known at the Club for her work with Dave Lewis's "1 Up" (Fri 8th). The music is an infectious mix of jazz, Latin and Groove and after the mid evening "Jam session" we usually take the tables out for the last set so everyone can dance, so bring your dancing shoes and prepare to have a great time!

“Cracking Latin-jazz quintet led by 606 proprietor Steve Rubie on flute and alto saxophone…explores these Latin jazz classics in great rhythmic style” Time Out
