David Gordon Trio :: Mike Outram Chris Montague 606 Club Chelsea Live Music Jazz London UK8:00PM An assured and versatile pianist, David Gordon is one of the few professional jazz musicians who is also a well-established classical artist. An accomplished harpsichordist as well as pianist, David includes work with the likes of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and has toured Europe and South America with the European Baroque Orchestra. An award-winning jazz and classical composer, he has had works performed on BBC Radio 3 as well as performances at the Cheltenham Festival and QEH. As a jazz pianist he has led his own trio since 1995 with a repertoire that focuses on original compositions by the band, but also includes material as diverse as folk music from Venezuela, East European dance music and Celtic-tinged melodies. David's most recent, fascinating, project “Alexander Scriabin's Ragtime Band” was received with considerable acclaim by audiences and critics alike, with both sold out live performances and a highly regarded CD. Tonight David will be bringing his latest, brand new project to the Club, which “pays homage to the great masters of eighteenth century Italian music to create a new kind of jazz. Taking its cue from the great 18th-century Italian masters, whose musical methods based on partimento ended up influencing music right the way across Europe, the Trio cleverly create super-hip jazz melodies and improvisations from the disciplines of the past, alongside some twentieth century Latin American hits that share some of the same characteristics and history”. The group also includes one of Italy’s best-loved and most in-demand bass players, Rosario Bonaccorso. With a list of colleagues reads like a Who’s Who of jazz, including playing for long periods of time in the bands of trumpeters Enrico Rava and Paolo Fresu, David and Rosario met when David was on tour in Austria earlier this year. Ever the diplomat, the snap-crackling Anglo-Italian drummer Paul Cavaciuti is the third member of the trio. Innovative and beautiful music from this world-class outfit, and absolutely not to be missed.

“Gordon...a richly gifted player with a sparkling style and boundless imagination!” Independent on Sunday; “Outstanding” Crescendo Magazine; "He doesn’t play many notes, but the notes that he does play are almost the selection of a genius" Jazz FM; "one of our most brilliant pianists … festival organisers both classical and jazz should be grabbing these guys with both hands" London Jazz News
