DATE (FEBRUARY) ARTIST BOOKED
SUNDAY 05th DAVID MIGDEN an enormously talented singer/pianist who has recently burst on to the scene. Born in Arkansas he moved to London when he was 16, but he still retains that husky, rich, “whisky soaked” voice of the Southern Blues singers. After performing for several years on the Blues “circuit” (he was the featured vocalist on a recent best selling Blues album.) David’s self-confessed influences of Dr John, Randy Newman and Tom Waits give a good indication of the breadth and character of the music, which is engaging, witty, moving and totally entertaining. Undoubtedly a star in the making, I would strongly advise you catch this guy while you still can! “..we'll be hearing a lot from him" The Guardian; “Want a voice with a touch of Gil Scott-Heron soul? Lou Rawls's uptown blues? Tom Waits at three in the morning? No problem.” The Times. “Phenomenally good” Jamie Cullum
SUNDAY 12th GUIDA DEPALMA perhaps best known for her work as lead singer with the Latin/Dance band “Da Latta”. But as well as a wonderful Latin singer (she is originally from Portugal and specializes in music from Brazil), Guida is also a remarkable soul singer, as her time with the American jazz/funk saxophonist Ronnie Laws will attest to. She performs a mixture of Soul, Jazz, Samba and R&B from the likes of Aretha Franklin and the Blues Brothers as well as Brazilian originals from her own band “Jazzinho”
SUNDAY 19th PAT CRUMLY generally recognised as one of the country’s leading modern jazz sax players. One of Ronnie Scott’s favourite players, Pat’s fluent and experienced “hard-bop” style is hard to beat, as he performs a mixture of jazz standards and Latin originals. A great flute player too. “Pat Crumly is one of the saxophone players .. that I most admire….he is a jazz musician.” Ronnie Scott; “..a perfect exercise of precision and flair wrapped up with enthusiasm..” Jazz Journal; “Excellent” Observer
SUNDAY 26th JULIET KELLY A notable addition to the Jazz scene, Juliet’s warm, rich, voice has been impressing both musicians and audiences alike. Working with some of the finest players around (always a good sign!) she produces a marvellous set of Jazz standards and her own, melodic, original material, which she aptly describes as "Acoustic Groove". Although still relatively new to the scene she includes work with Gary Crosby and Jason Yarde on her cv, and has already performed at Clubs and festivals around the World. Recommended. "A beautiful singer, of beautiful songs." The Guardian. "...a singer whose rich, raw voice is as compelling as her compositions." Jazzwise
