ACANTHA LANG
“"Her voice blew me away…She is truly unforgettable.””
Jude Law
Singer Acantha Lang has been making quite a name for herself since recently relocating to London. Although born in New Orleans, her desire to sing was really kindled after she moved to New York and bought her first Blues CD, and as she says "it felt like home". She immersed herself in the blues, studying its history, music and greats such as Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters, which led to putting together and landing a residency at the Harlem Grill where her highly lauded ‘Monday Night Blues’ performances were described as "an amalgamation of Tina Turner, James Brown, and Janis Joplin". It wasn't long before she was being asked to perform at various prestigious venues around New York, including one of the hottest clubs in the country, The Box. It was then a short step to being asked to MC The Box's sister Club, The Box-London. Unsurprisingly, performing regularly at such a well-known venue has helped rapidly establish Acantha as an artist of real talent and authority. As well as New York and London, Acantha has performed in Africa, French Guiana, China, Russia, and throughout Europe and has been heralded as a force to be reckoned with by the likes of Sting and Axl Rose. Although Acantha started out singing the Blues, these days her repertoire is more eclectic, and she quotes the likes of Tina Turner, Nina Simone and Jimi Hendrix amongst her many influences. Acantha has already appeared here at the Club with the likes of Mo Pleasure and Dan Reinstein, so we know her powerful and charismatic singing well. It is therefore with great pleasure that we welcome this outstanding artist with her very own band featuring 606 Club regular, guitarist Emlyn Francis (Imaani). Promises to be a "Groove" extravaganza not to be missed.
