Adriano Adewale
Master percussionist Adriano Adewale’s trio project ‘Work of Sounds” is inspired by the classic Afro-Brazilian music traditions of his native Brazil. Taking the audience on a journey where urban and rural sounds meet traditional and contemporary styles of music making, the result is, as Adriano describes: “a blend of delicious grooves, beautiful melodies and rich textures of exquisite soundscapes”. Generally considered to be one of the finest Brazilian percussionists in Europe he includes work with the likes of Bobby McFerrin and the AKA Trio (Adewale, Antonio Forcione-guitar & Seckou Keita-kora) on an impressive cv. Joining Adriano tonight will be John Crawford-piano and Gustavo Roriz-bass, along with his special guest, fellow Brazilian, vocalist Leandra Varanda. From São Paulo, since she's been in London Leandra has brought her love of bossa nova, samba and jazz to performances at a range of venues, from the Victoria and Albert Museum to Wembley Stadium and the Welsh Proms.
"It's remarkably tranquil and elegantly executed world music, but it has plenty of muscle, too" Guardian; "Adewale combines his Brazilian and African roots brilliantly in a captivating synthesis." The Jazzmann; “A whole percussion orchestra by himself” British Theatre Guide
