Alex Webb's 'Quintet Blue' ft. Leo Richardson & Rosie Turton
Pianist Alex Webb leads this group with a powerful tenor & trombone front-line celebrating ‘jukebox jazz’ - the bluesy, swinging jazz of the 1950s and 60s, as well as more recent works from the likes of Charlie Haden. Known for his direct, contemporary take on hard bop, tenor saxophonist Leo Richardson spent several years' honing his craft in the Ronnie Scott’s Big Band before becoming an in-demand session and live player, working with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Van Morrison, Jamie Cullum and Gregory Porter at venues ranging from The Royal Albert Hall to Glastonbury. His own recordings have received five-star reviews from the Guardian, The Times and BBC Music Magazine. Trombonist Rosie Turton is a rising star on the UK music scene, a graduate of the Tomorrow’s Warriors collective, cited by The Guardian as ‘One to Watch’ and nominated for Jazz FM’s ‘Breakthrough Act of the Year 2020’. Alex Webb is a prolific songwriter, arranger and pianist, whose songs have been recorded by a number of high-profile jazz singers including China Moses, Jo Harrop, Mina Agossi & Liane Carroll. For the gig tonight Quintet Blue is completed by bassist Jeremy Brown and drummer Winston Clifford.
