ANOUSHKA LUCAS
“"When first watching her perform, it was clear to all that she had a natural and rich talent and was confident enough in it to just simply... sing! She has a beautiful tone to her voice"”
Neil Cowley (Love Supreme)
One of the most talented singer/songwriters of her generation, there's a great deal more to Anoushka Lucas than just "a girl with a guitar". Hailing from Hammersmith, West London, as this multi-instrumentalist (she also plays very good piano) describes it "...my childhood was mainly hijacked by my dad's attempts to educate me in Jazz, Country, Rock and MGM musicals. All in one go." After graduating from Oxford with a degree in languages (Italian and Russian, which included spending some interesting time in Russia) Anoushka decided to pursue the great love of her life, music. She started with an EP released in 2009 that showcased her terrific, pure and characterful voice and which served as a springboard for a more adventurous second EP, released in 2011, entitled "Left to my Own Devices" what featured her inventive, musical and witty compositions. At the same time she started to collaborate with playwright Che Walker, which has led to her working as a composer on a number of productions with him, as well as artists such as Omar and legendary producer Stephen Rinkoff. She was featured at the first ever Love Supreme Festival in 2013 as the winner of their "Discovery" competition and more recently has been touring and performing both as a solo artist and with her band. She continues to write music for the theatre, contributing all the music to Che's latest piece, “The Etienne Sisters” which premiered at the Theatre Royal Stratford East. In a style that has been described as "sultry, sensual and sassy" this incredibly talented artist will be performing this evening both solo and with the impressive bass player Rio Kai. She is promising to unveil some brand new material, which should make the evening even more exciting and rewarding. If you want to know what's happening at the cutting edge of the songwriting world, this is unquestionably the gig to be at.
