Ant Law/Chris Montague Quartet
This show marks the live debut of a new project led by two of the UK’s most distinctive and exciting guitarists to emerge on the scene in recent years, Ant Law & Chris Montague! Initially conceived after a duo performance several years ago, the material is composed by Ant & Chris reflecting a diverse set of contemporary influences.
Since launching his professional career in 2010 Ant Law has shown himself to possess not just a virtuosic capability on the guitar, but also an inquisitive, multi-faceted musical sensibility that has brought him international attention. Described as a ‘gamechanger’ by the Guardian, Ant’s own critically acclaimed albums have showcased his unique approach to the instrument and he’s also been sought out by other high-profile jazz artists including Grammy-winner Tim Garland, Jason Rebello, Alex Hitchcock & Brigitte Beraha.
Guitarist Chris Montague is also widely recognised for his skills as a composer and performer. As a founder member of the highly acclaimed progressive jazz Trio Troyka he gained a reputation for his distinctive, freewheeling style, with the band singled out for their electrifying live set. A prize winner at the Montreux Jazz Festival International Guitar Competition, Chris has also worked with Django Bates, Kit Downes, Gwilym Simcock, Charlie Watts, Sarah Gillespie, Trish Clowes & Squarepusher among many more. His music was the subject of a feature on BBC Radio 3 and as a composer, he’s received commissions from the Royal Academy of Music Big Band, Threads Orchestra, EFG London Jazz Festival & others. With the addition of bassist Conor Chaplin & drummer Jamie Murray, this is a world-class collaboration to be sure, not to be missed.
