Anthony Kerr 'The Art of the Vibes'
Anthony Kerr is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading exponents of the jazz vibraphone. Born in Ireland, he moved to New York to study jazz, winning a scholarship to the New School of Jazz & Contemporary Music in Greenwich Village in 1987. Upon his return to the UK, his career went from strength to strength, performing and recording with artists such as George Shearing, Elvis Costello, Claire Martin, Jacqui Dankworth, Guy Barker and Charlie Watts and appearing regularly as a soloist with the BBC Big Band and Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames. He has won numerous awards including the British Jazz Award for ‘Best Instrumentalist’ and has the grace and flair that comes only with true mastery of one’s art. Also a Professor of Jazz Vibraphone at the Royal College of Music for more than twenty years, for his show tonight Anthony & his trio will be joined by trumpet and flugelhorn virtuoso Martin Shaw to explore some of the thoughtful and intelligent compositions from the pen of Billy Strayhorn, as well as John Coltrane, Bill Evans and JS Bach!
