Ayala (Album Launch)
Originally from Ireland, vocalist and songwriter Ayala has been compared to artists such as Nancy Sinatra & Amy Winehouse. But her CV is actually much more intriguing (and prolific!) than that. First establishing herself in Britain working in jazz, soul & pop with, among others, Gilbert O’Sullivan, she also produced & hosted her own live music TV programme, The Ayala Show. Subsequently, she expanded her horizons to the US and Latin America, collaborating with artists such as Grammy Award & Billboard Latin Music Award winner Horacio Palencia, El Chacal, Los Rumberos & more, infusing elements of Mexican folk music into her unique style.
Ayala’s new album ’The Crossing’ which she is launching this evening is a return to her more British jazz-soul-classic sound, with a touch of Latin flair. Recorded at RAK studios in London utilising timeless analogue techniques for a classic feel, Ayala has put together an outstanding, 10-piece band to bring those arrangements to the 606 stage. Featuring Ross Stanley-piano, Giorgio Serci-guitar, Andy Hamill-electric/upright bass & Martyn Kaine-drums with a three-horn frontline and three backing singers, the ensemble will provide the perfect setting for Ayala’s powerful voice and beautifully-crafted songs.
