Christian Garrick's 'String Bag'
““...exquisite musician…violin superstar””
Guardian
An award-winning jazz violinist of power and musicality Chris Garrick joins us tonight with his new project 'String Bag', which he describes as a “brand new mini band showcasing bowed strings outside their comfort zone of Classical music.” A three string frontline of violin, viola (Bruce White) and cello (Ian Burge) is balanced with a jazz trio of piano (David Gordon), bass (Alec Dankworth) and drums (Tom Hooper), performing a dynamically diverse playlist of Mahavishnu-inspired stylings, 70’s funk-fusion and original pieces from Chris and David. Chris has done much to revitalise the jazz violin, prompting violin icon Nigel Kennedy to call him one of the best in Europe. In addition to his live performances, he is a busy studio session musician with a wealth of movie soundtracks to his name, famously recording the solo violin for the popular Poldark television series, and guesting regularly on BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing. His CV also includes work with Wynton Marsalis, Nigel Kennedy, Bireli Lagrene, Dolly Parton, All About Eve, Duffy, Van Morrison, John Etheridge, Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth. A must-see gig.
