Dan Reinstein Photo 1

American-born but British educated, saxophonist Dan Reinstein first began playing at the old 606 Club on Kings Road when he was a medical undergraduate. Even then he was impressive, and after taking time off from his medical studies to attend the Berklee School of Music he became even more remarkable. Dan returned to the US in the early 90s where he became one of the world’s leading experts in laser eye surgery (he’s now officially Professor Reinstein). But he never stopped performing, and when he returned to London to live and work it was great to hear his fluent, classic hard-bop, muscular sax playing again at the Club, and the rest, as they say, is history-Dan & his quartet (Tim Lapthorn-piano, Steve Rose-bass & Winston Clifford-drums) have performed here for the last 21 years. The repertoire consists of best-loved jazz standards from the 50's through the 90's from artists including Miles, Hancock, Silver and more. The quartet is joined this evening by award-winning trumpeter Robbie Robson. A national finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition (1999), he was the runner up for Perrier Young Jazz Musician in 2000. Since then Robbie has worked with an impressive list of high profile names, including Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine, Phil Woods, Mike Gibbs, Jamie Cullum, the James Taylor Quartet & many more. His playing can also be heard on albums by US jazz stars Bill Frisell and Steve Swallow.
