Dave Lewis's robust and melodic tenor sax playing has been heard with a notable list of artists including John Martyn, Bryan Ferry, Joan Armatrading, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, The Blockheads and of course his own band, 1Up with whom he often appears at the Club. For this 606 show however Dave and his Quartet (Robin Aspland-keys, Neville Malcolm-bass and Rod Youngs-drums) have put together a choice setlist of soulful, bluesy, and rare groove-based standards and originals that they don’t usually play at the Six, but with the some emphasis on improvisation and feel that is their trademark. In addition to Dave’s vast experience, the other three members of this elite foursome have worked with prestige level talent such as George Benson, Gregory Porter, Van Morrison, Gil Scott Heron, George Coleman, Kenny Wheeler, Hugh Masekela and Ronnie Laws, making this a great band, and as we like to say, a great gig, this.
