David Gordon Trio Photo 1

“a richly gifted player with a sparkling style and boundless imagination”

Independent on Sunday

An assured and versatile pianist, David Gordon is one of the few professional jazz musicians who is also a well-established classical artist. An accomplished harpsichordist as well as pianist, David includes work as soloist/director with the likes of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, the London Chamber Orchestra and Concerto Köln and as an award-winning composer he has had works commissioned by festivals, orchestras and fellow musicians alike. As a jazz pianist he has a repertoire that focuses on original compositions by the band, but also includes material as diverse as folk music from Venezuela, East European dance tunes and Celtic-tinged melodies.

David's album "Alexander Scriabin's Ragtime Band" was MOJO's Jazz CD of Year, while Stereopluss Norway called it "one of the finest trio records I have heard in a very long time". Since then, David & his Trio (Oli Hayhurst-bass and Tom Hooper-drums) have been showcasing music from their current record "Pachyderm" but tonight, they will be introducing a brand new set in tribute to the 19th century French composer Gabriel Fauré', who died 100 years ago this year. Forging links between this genius of Romantic pianism and the jazz era that was influenced by his music, the night will above all celebrate the beauty of Fauré's melodies and the subtleties of his rhythmic and harmonic language. David is a world class talent with a playful sense of humour, which makes all his shows both musically innovative and a lot of fun!

“Gordon...a richly gifted player with a sparkling style and boundless imagination!” Independent on Sunday; "He doesn’t play many notes, but the notes that he does play are almost the selection of a genius" Jazz FM; "one of our most brilliant pianists … festival organisers both classical and jazz should be grabbing these guys with both hands" London Jazz News; "David Gordon has the wonderful ability to make piano notes glisten like precious drops of water” John Etheridge, Musician
