David Janeway
A native of Detroit, in 1978 at the age of 23 Jazz pianist and composer David Janeway moved to New York to study and play and has been there ever since. An enormously respected (and versatile) musician his powerful, fluent, playing has been heard in a wide variety of contexts, from straight ahead jazz with musicians such as Art Farmer and Tom Harrell through Latin Jazz artists such as Angel Canales and Sabor to Dakota Staton, Junior Cook & the Supremes. He has a number of well received albums to his name featuring the likes of Bob Berg, Sonny Fortune, Harvie S and Tim Armacost, including his last critically acclaimed record, "Distant Voices" released in 2021 with Cameron Brown and the iconic drummer Billy Hart. And, he will also be treating us to music from his new recording, “Forward Motion” due to be released this fall on Steeplechase. The band for this 606 show features one of the UK's top jazz saxophone players, the always inspired Alex Garnett (Ronnie Scott's All Stars), along with Dutch bassist now based in New York, Joris Teepe (Billy Hart, Randy Brecker) and Mark Taylor (Chet Baker, Roy Hargrove) drums.
