George Crowley Quartet
Saxophone and clarinet player/composer George Crowley released two acclaimed albums, ‘Paper Tiger’ & ‘Can of Worms’ with his own groups on celebrated jazz indie label Whirlwind Recordings. His warm and expressive sax has also been heard however in a variety of other contexts, from contemporary showstoppers such as Melt Yourself Down and Yazz Ahmed to the Julian Argüelles' Septet. Lately, he's been working with top UK jazz artists including pianist Ivo Neame and vocalist Brigitte Beraha's "lucid Dreamers" (which also features pianist Alcyona Mick, joining George on this gig tonight along with Conor Chaplin-bass & Corrie Dick-drums). George is a fantastic player we don't see that often at the Club, and we thank him particularly for filling in for Mark Lockheart at short notice.
“Rarely does a player so young debut with such a fully rounded tone and range of writing skills, so keep a keen ear out for Crowley: the future could yet be his.” Jazzwise; "[ George Crowley] …a fine young composer/player who knows where the music has been and where he’s headed with it." The Guardian; "George Crowley is currently one of the country's leading saxophone players... everything he touched..turned to gold" Bebop Spoken Here
