Gwyneth Herbert
“Brilliantly original”
MOJO Magazine
One of the most creative and striking performers working on the UK scene, Gwyneth’s remarkable voice is something quite special, bringing sophistication to her singer/songwriter material, and a wonderful “edge” to the occasional cover. Since her first CD “Bittersweet and Blue” she has gone on to produce an immensely impressive series of CDs featuring her brilliant songs, including her last album, “The Sea Cabinet”, which yet again garnered universal praise. And not content with being one of the finest singer/songwriters in the country (really) she has also won two prestigious theatrical awards for her music, had them queuing around the block at the Rochester Jazz Festival in New York, written a song-cycle about the sea which debuted at the Aldeburgh Festival and composed and performed a specially commissioned soundtrack to the silent film “The Patsy”. She provided the music for "The A-Z of Mrs P", “A Note to the New Government” commissioned by The London Sinfonietta and The Royal Philharmonic Society; two musical collaborations with artist Mel Brimfield, “The Palace that Joan Built” and “Henry and Barbara – the Musical” and a new theatrical Song Cycle "The Rhythm Method". Tonight Gwyneth tells us she will be showcasing material from her latest album "Letters I Haven't Written", alongside music from past projects and will not only be singing but playing mandolin, French horn and as she puts it "everything but the kitchen sink....and possibly the kitchen sink!". Accompanying her on this musical journey will be the creative and exciting playing of multi Award winning guitarist Rob Luft. A Peter Whittingham and Kenny Wheeler Award recipient Rob has been named a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist. And just to add even more interest to an already amazing gig, watch out for a number of Special Guests that Gwyneth has lined up to join her this evening. Quite brilliant.
