Hungarian Music XChange: Balázs Szalóky
Born into a well-known musical dynasty in his native Hungary, trumpeter Balázs Szalóky has a lasting love of both jazz and classical music. This love led him to apply to the world-famous Julliard School of Music in New York, where out of all the new entrants he scored the highest number of points and was invited to attend on scholarship. Subsequently, Balasz had the chance to shine as a soloist in both New York and Washington with the Modern Art Orchestra, a Hungarian big band with a refreshing take on the standard big band instrumentation that has attracted renown worldwide. Balazs came to the attention of the 606 when he competed at Hungary’s premier Festival of new talent, the Mupa Showcase in 2020. The 606’s founder Steve Rubie was a member of the jury panel and was so impressed, he booked him to appear at the Club. Balazs will be joined by fellow Hungarians, London-based pianist Mátyás Gayer and bassist Mátyás Hofecker, along with drummer Steve Brown. A terrific technician as well as a player of warmth and style!
Presented in association with the Hungarian based non-profit organisation Harmonia Muhely Alapitvany.
