Jim Mullen/Paulo Morello Trio
This is a remarkable combination featuring two of the finest jazz guitarists in Europe. The multi-award-winning Jim Mullen is an iconic figure on the UK jazz scene, with work alongside the likes Mose Allison, Jimmy Witherspoon and his own highly acclaimed jazz/funk band “Morrissey-Mullen”. Paulo Morello (who is based in Germany, where he is Professor of Jazz Guitar and Artistic Director at the Jazz Institute Berlin) includes work with the likes of Randy Brecker, Larry Coryell, Jimmy Smith, Bob Mintzer, Billy Cobham and Pat Martino on a vast and impressive cv. These two giants of the guitar first teamed up in 2014 and have been performing together whenever time allows ever since. Tonight they bring their swinging trio to the Club, featuring the terrific Steve Watts on bass, showcasing a repertoire of jazz and Brazilian music that has been described as reflecting “the buoyant lightness inherent in Brazilian music, the sophistication and intensity of jazz and an effortlessly virtuosic, joyfully fluid ease in execution”.
