John Law's Re-Creations
““Law's piano improvisations were often astonishing in their boldness and technical ambition””
Guardian
Originally a classical pianist, John formed his first Jazz group “Atlas” in 1986. Since then he has become known as one of Europe’s most creative jazz pianist/composers, working with the likes of Tim Garland, Evan Parker and Andy Sheppard and, to date, has appeared at over fifty different festivals worldwide and produced in excess of 25 CDs. A fluent and highly creative player John is widely regarded as one of the most gifted jazz pianists of his generation. Tonight John is bringing his newly formed quartet "Re-Creations" to the Club, featuring some of the finest of the younger musicians on the UK scene. In a departure from his usual gigs the repertoire is not his own, impressive, originals but, as he puts it, "new arrangements of many classic tunes from the jazz canon plus some pop and beyond...". The line-up tonight features Award-winning saxophonist Sam Crockatt along with upcoming young musicians James Agg on bass and Billy Weir on drums. This is a fascinating inter-generational band playing well-known standards in a way you may not have quite heard before! Well worth checking out.
