Jon Lloyd Quartet (Album Launch)
Rising to prominence in the 1990’s as a saxophonist/composer of note associated with free jazz, Jon Lloyd and his quartet featuring renowned pianist John Law toured the UK and Europe prolifically, while working with Swiss label HatHut & the UK’s Leo Records. Over the years however his style has evolved towards a more European jazz aesthetic, while also incorporating touchpoints from American and contemporary jazz and even world music. The latest iteration of Jon’s quartet reunites him with John Law and, augmented by bassist Nick Pini & drummer Alex Goodyear, they have a new album ‘Earth Songs’ which they are launching this evening. A lush, atmospheric collection of vibrant, melodic compositions written by Jon specifically for this project, this promises to be an enchanting night of music performed at the highest level.
“Ambitious and virtuosic. Jon Lloyd is one of the most striking writers at the sharp end of British jazz and improvisation” Guardian; “Lloyd’s tunes are steeped in the ECM aesthetic, and he and long-time collaborator John Law on piano make it sound like the only music you ever want to hear.” London Jazz News; “Creative music at its best. Great European contemporary jazz.” Jazzwise
