Lunchtime: Fleur Stevenson with Art Themen
A familiar face on the London jazz scene, singer Fleur Stevenson is gifted with a honeyed vocal tone, sparkling presentation and a real grasp of the jazz idiom. After developing her talent under the tutelage of one of the queens of British jazz, Claire Martin, Fleur appeared at numerous prestige venues including Ronnie Scott’s and Pizza Express Dean St as well as releasing two highly-regarded albums, ‘Follow Me’ and ‘For All We Know’ (the latter named as one of Jazz Views’ 2022 ‘Best Albums of the Year’). She’s also collaborated with an impressive array of top UK jazz players, including the standout Trio that joins her for this 606 show: leading light of the British jazz scene for over 50 years, saxophonist Art Themen, pianist Gareth Williams and bassist Andy Crowdy. With lively new arrangements of jazz favourites as well as lesser-known vintage songs, the combination of Fleur’s gift for storytelling, Art’s inventive playing, Gareth’s creative piano style and Andy’s swinging bass creates a unique sound that is warm, exciting and spontaneous! A treat for fans of first-class, straight-ahead jazz.
“Fleur has a great voice and sense of timing, and her ability to scat is quite phenomenal” London Jazz News; “A relaxed jazz vocalist with a bright voice…and the ability to swing at any tempo.” Jazz Journal; "Themen, a veteran master now, in such eloquent form" Jazzwise
