Lunchtime Special: Eileen Hunter's Tribute to Blossom Dearie
““Eileen has it all…””
Tina May
Eileen is not only a wonderful vocalist with a lovely, breathy delivery but also a highly accomplished musician, being fluent on both piano and flute. She has worked at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Regents Park Open Air Theatre and of course the 606, where she was a regular for many years (though not so much lately as she is now also Mrs. Steve Brookstein and a mum). Signed to Jive Records in 2003, just prior to the label’s acquisition by BMG, her first CD “I Miss the Sky” was finally completed and released through radio station Jazz FM in 2009, who received the album as a demo and were so impressed they decided to put it out on their own imprint, Clifford Street Records. Today Eileen will be showcasing her latest project "A Tribute to Blossom Dearie" which will feature her performing both originals and classic jazz standards made famous by this iconic US artist. And if we're lucky husband Steve Brookstein may even sing a couple too! Aiding and abetting her today will be Naadia Sheriff-piano, Rob Rickenberg-bass and Nick Smalley-drums. A talented and impressive performer we don’t hear enough of!
