Italian by birth, guitarist Marco Piccioni started his career in Boston and then New York after graduating from Boston's iconic Berklee College of Music in 2002. By 2003 he was working both in New York and his native Italy where he established his own quartet with whom he recorded his first solo album, “Waterflight”, published by DDE-Records. By 2006 he had moved to London, which is now his permanent base, and since then he has collaborated with numerous high profile artists, including the likes of Julia Biel and Cleveland Watkiss. In addition to working with his Trio, Marco is also part of the Modal Contemporary band Collocutor, the Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra and is an established music teacher, guitar tutor and lecturer, holding the post of course leader for the Artist Development Programme at the British Academy of New Music in London. A well-respected blues, rock and jazz guitarist as well as singer he describes his playing as "blending the warm sounds of Blues and Rock with Contemporary European Jazz flavours". Assisted by the regular members of the Trio, fellow Berklee alumnus and award-winning musician Blendi Dhami on bass and 606 regular Chris Nickolls (Mike Stern, Jason Rebello) on drums, the music is a thoughtful mix of jazz, blues and more contemporary styles, with many of the songs featuring Marco's vocals as well as his searing guitar. Much of the repertoire derives from his latest album “Far”, released in 2015, and which Marco characterises as "fast swing ostinatos....psychedelic shuffles and lazy, melancholic 12bars". Great addition to the 606 Club's contemporary roster and well worth catching.
