Matyas Gayer
A multi-award winning young pianist from Hungary now based in London, Matyas Gayer won a scholarship to the prestigious US Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2009, first prize at the International Zilina Jazz Contest, was finalist at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition two years running and in 2015 won the Gramofon Award, one of Hungary's most prestigious jazz prizes. A regular performer on the London and European jazz scene, Matyas has collaborated with the greats of jazz including Don Menza, Jim Rotondi, Luis Bonilla, Jesse Davis, Dusko Goykovich and Grant Stewart while appearing in the most illustrious jazz clubs such as Ronnie Scott's, Pizza Express, 606, Toulouse Lautrec, Porgy and Bess, Jazzkeller, Unterfahrt, Bird's Eye, Hot Club and more. Having successfully forged his own impressively distinctive style and musical voice whilst still staying true to the swinging jazz piano tradition, tonight he will be appearing with his quartet featuring one of the UK’s finest saxophonists, Alex Garnett.
