Paul Booth's "Hoop"
“Paul Booth….an exceptional talent”
Sunday Times
Multi-Award-winning saxophonist Paul Booth has toured the world as the featured sax player with the “Riverdance” show, worked with the likes of Eric Clapton and Matt Bianco and is currently a member of the Steve Winwood Band. Widely considered to be amongst the elite musicians on the scene, tonight he will be featuring his All Star 7-piece jazz/funk/fusion band "Hoop", which grew out of his “Secret Sessions” recording project (released on Ubuntu Records in 2021). Over to Paul: “I hand-picked a band and then thought it could be fun to not tell them who they were going to be recording with…and ‘Secret Sessions’ was born. The core of the music was seven people in a studio playing ‘live’ and is reminiscent of the fusion/jazz funk/jazz rock era”. The band itself is as good as it gets, including Tom Walsh-trumpet, Nichol Thomson-trombone & Ross Stanley-organ. Pretty special gig this!
“Blistering saxist” Independent; “Exceptional talent” Sunday Times; “Paul Booth…has long enjoyed a reputation as a sax player of… intensity...[as well as] an interesting composer…. the result is a delight.” Daily Telegraph; “Paul Booth is... effortless ….rich and warm of tone, he is a pleasure to listen to.” Birmingham Post
