Pete Roth Trio ft. Bill Bruford
German expat guitarist Pete Roth’s first album ‘Meridian’, released in 2010, went a long way to establishing this fluent and interesting guitarist as a name to watch. Since then he has gone on to collaborate with a significant number of high-profile artists on the UK scene, both as a sideman and bandleader, as well as releasing several more albums under his own name. Tonight he brings to the Club his latest band, the Pete Roth Trio, playing an eclectic and exciting mix of material, from his own excellent originals influenced by the likes of John Scofield through the Trio’s collective compositions to jazz standards and the reassembling of existing masterworks such as Anton Dvorak’s ‘Largo from Symphony #9’. Also featured are Mike Pratt (Liane Carroll, Dave O’Higgins)-bass and a musician who was voted into Modern Drummer magazine’s Hall of Fame (1990), named by Rolling Stone magazine as the 16th Greatest Drummer of All Time (2016) and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, the iconic drummer Bill Bruford. Known for his remarkable playing with prog rock bands Yes & King Crimson, Bill’s jazz credentials are also extensive, including work with the likes of Ralph Towner as well as more than 20 years with different iterations of his own jazz band Earthworks, which at various times featured the likes of Django Bates, Tim Garland, Patrick Clahar and Gwilym Simcock. Great high energy trio this, well worth catching.
