Phil Merriman Trio (Album Launch)
A fluent, thoughtful and highly creative pianist Phil Merriman has worked with a wide variety of classical, world and jazz musicians. He includes performances at the likes of Ronnie Scott’s, Cadogan Hall, Cheltenham Jazz Festival and The Royal Albert Hall alongside musicians as diverse as Polly Gibbons, Shola Ama, CeCe Peniston and Tara Minton (whose recent album he also produced). Tonight he will be launching his latest album, “The Roots Beneath”, featuring his established trio of John Williamson-bass and Simon Roth-drums. Phil describes the music as “influenced by a wide range of styles from lyrical folk melodies of Bartok to the darker harmonies of Messiaen, underpinned by shifting rhythms that provide a platform for collaborative improvisation”.
