Simon Lasky
“....a paean to well-constructed, uncluttered composition and honest-to-goodness musical texture. There are no rough edges to this sound.”

Winner of the 2018 British Composer Award for ‘Jazz Composition for Small Ensemble', Simon Lasky juggles a busy career as a composer, pianist, NPR jazz host and recording artist on both sides of the Atlantic. Now resident in Florida USA, Simon returns to the Club for the UK launch of his latest recording, "For the Dreamers" on the highly-regarded Ubuntu label. With a background that includes extensive study of both classical and jazz music, the album’s eight tracks (a mix of Simon’s original compositions and his arrangements of well-loved songs), were fashioned from his personal experiences during the pandemic, as well as the inspiration & comfort he found in the works of artists such as Miles, Bill Evans and Mahler. Bringing this music to life is an extraordinary band: Shanti Jayasinha-trumpet; Sam Mayne-alto sax; Paul Booth-tenor sax, Ant Law-guitar, Pete Billington-bass, Sophie Alloway-drums & special guest, Noemi Nuti-vocals.
“Uplifting improvisational grooves, classy chops and exotic percussion, there’s no shortage of beautifully striking moments.” All About Jazz; “a joyous exuberant piece, brilliantly crafted on all levels, and with great textural and melodic writing.” BBC Radio 3
