Simon Woolf Piano Quartet
One of the most fluent and creative jazz double bass players in Europe, Simon Woolf is perhaps best known at the Club for his performances with leading American soloists as Harry Allen, Howard Alden, Chris Cheek and Grant Stewart. But he’s also had long associations with UK musicians Andy Panayi, Mark Nightingale, Dave Cliff, Peter Jacobsen, Bobby Wellins and many more, as well as appearing in productions at the National Theatre and the West End. Lately however, Simon has been heard at the piano, which is where you will find him this evening! The programme focuses on the work of two of the greatest songwriters of all time (really!), Richard Rodgers and Jerome Kern, who along with their contemporaries such as George Gershwin & Cole Porter literally invented the Great American Songbook. The quartet also features saxophonist Olly Wilby (Ray Gelato, Pasadena Roof Orchestra). Wonderful music.
“PRO boasts some of the best soloists in the business…Oliver Wilby’s tenor sax brought swinging life to Body And Soul” (Charles Hutch Press, the Artbeat of Yorkshire)
