THE ALLEN/ VAN LIER LONDON-AMSTERDAM PROJECT
“Brandon Allen is arguably the most exciting tenor player in Britain today”
Jazzwise
Brandon Allen is an expat Australian saxophonist who has made quite an impression on the scene since taking up residence in London in 2002. His wonderfully fluent and incisive playing has been heard in prestigious venues and Festivals all over Europe and he has performed with the likes of Eric Clapton, Mica Paris, Jools Holland, US3, Paloma Faith and Omar. He regularly hosts the Late Late Show at Ronnie Scott’s and is currently the featured saxophonist with the Kyle Eastwood Band. Dutch keyboard player Bas van Lier has been the driving force behind bands such as Sister Sledge, Bl3nder (with Def.P) and SuperSwamp as well as performing with the famous Dutch tenor player Hans Dulfer’s band for over 10 years. Together Brandon and Bas will be bringing their exciting new Jazz/Groove project to the Club with what they like to call their "power quartet"! Over to the guys for a description of the music: "A tribute to the founders of the acid jazz movement we pay a soulful tribute to some of our greatest heroes, Ramsey Lewis, Stanley Turrentine, Les McCann, Gene Ammons and Jack McDuff with a set full of groove jazz classics and catchy originals". Sounds fun! Completing this pan-European line up will be Arnie Somogyi (UK) on bass and Erik Kooger (NL) on drums.
