Tina May "Celebrating Mark Murphy" With Nikki Iles-Piano
Tina May is a multi-award winning vocalist who has established a well deserved reputation on the UK scene as a Jazz singer of great sophistication. From collaborations with musicians such as Stan Tracey, Dave Newton and Colin Towns through to work with the likes of Ray Bryant and Tony Coe, her pure toned voice and faultless delivery have earned her the respect and admiration of both audiences and musicians alike. With more than a dozen CD’s to her name she is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading vocalists, producing some remarkable gigs and albums. Tonight, as well as her usual repertoire of Jazz standards and the occasional original Tina will also be featuring material from her latest album "Café Paranoia", a tribute to the late, great, US vocalist Mark Murphy. A mentor to Tina for many years Mark, widely considered to be one of the greatest vocal stylists in Jazz, was also a great supporter and friend of the Club, appearing here on numerous occasions over a more than 25 year association. Which makes this a gig particularly close to our hearts! Also featured tonight is Tina’s regular collaborator, pianist, teacher and composer Nikki Iles. Another multi-award winning musician Nikki is widely regarded as one of the finest modern jazz pianists in Europe. Completing the rhythm section this evening will be Nick Pugh-bass and Steve Brown-drums. Great gig this and highly recommended.
