Wild Flower Quintet ft. Matt Anderson/Quentin Collins: Celebrating Wayne Shorter Photo 1

Led by winner of the 2017 Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition, saxophonist Matt Anderson, Wild Flower Quintet celebrates the 60th anniversary of Wayne Shorter’s classic recordings for Blue Note Records with this special show! Featuring highly regarded trumpeter Quentin Collins (Kyle Eastwood, Omar, Five-Way Split), along with Sam Watts-piano, Oli Hayhurst-bass & Sam Gardner-drums, the group plays original music inspired by Shorter’s sound and approach, alongside new arrangements of both his classic and lesser-known compositions. Released in 2015, the group’s album “Wild Flower” was described by Jazzwise as putting "their own unique stamp on Shorter's very personal repertoire... of a quality that resonates with its inspirational source... Enjoyably un-pretentious."

Since then, Matt has made three further recordings with the Matt Anderson Quartet, with the latest Live at Leeds Jazz Festival released earlier this year to glowing reviews, including four stars in Jazzwise, and airplay on BBC Radio 3. Along the way, he’s worked with artists such as Greg Hutchinson and Ivo Neame as well as the Gareth Lockrane & Calum Gourlay Big Bands, and also teaches at Leeds Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music.

"This is sophisticated stuff, with a proper handle on Shorter's post-bop genius... Everyone plays superbly and the whole set is wholly recommended." Jazz Journal *****; "Anderson’s tenor saxophone tone is rich and warm” All About Jazz; "A trumpeter whose style is a sizzling update of the Morgan/Hubbard approach” MOJO
